Opportunity - young documentary film-makers sought

This fantastic opportunity has been brought to our attention by Jenny Wilkes of the BBC-

First Light has a great opportunity for 18-25 year olds who are interested in documentary filmmaking. Working alongside The Grierson Trust, First Light is looking for enthusiastic, committed young people from across the UK with a fresh take on documentary filmmaking which is not currently reflected on screen.

The intensive 3 day residential Grierson Documentary Lab will include:

•       An introduction to the genre and different types of documentaries and styles of shooting.
•       Learning about how to research ideas, develop and pitch them.
•       Script development focusing on structure and story.
•       Exploring production roles and a practical exercise to experience the different positions.
•       Information, advice and careers guidance.

In addition, participants also attend the Sheffield Doc Fest in mid June, benefit from a 2 day self shoot/editing training weekend and have the opportunity to volunteer at The Quadrangle Film Festival (tbc).

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a selection day on Tues 21 May which will be held in Nottingham. Reasonable travel expenses and lunch will be covered.

The Lab will be held at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham for 3 consecutive days (5-7 June 2013).

If you are selected your travel, accommodation and meals will be covered for the duration of the lab, attending DocFest and the self shooting/editing weekend.

Further information and application forms can be found on the website. http://www.firstlightonline.co.uk/talent/grierson-documentary-lab/

Closing date for applications: 5pm, Tues 14 May 2013
